As the sinister saga of Stuart Rudolph Weldon unravels, our hearts are heavy with the weight of his despicable acts. Together with Jess, Hannah, and producer Rob with special Guest Kaylyn,  we find ourselves ensnared in the macabre tapestry of Weldon's life, marked by a harrowing transition from troubled youth to monstrous criminal. The streets of Springfield, Massachusetts bear the scars of Weldon's depravity, with the grim discovery of three bodies buried at his home. Our journey takes us through the eerie twists of his criminal record, from a sexual assault at age 19 to the eventual unearthing of his horrifying backyard secrets. The insights from Weldon's former ally, Dwight Pottinger, expose the unfathomable depths of a man whose crimes reverberate through the community, leaving us grappling with the question: How could such evil walk among us?

The gravity of Weldon's deeds comes to an inescapable climax as we recount the intense moments leading to his capture, a high-speed chase that served as the prelude to justice. The Springfield Police Department's meticulous investigation pieces together the chilling puzzle of Weldon's life, including the disturbing testimonies of a woman held captive in his house of horrors. With Weldon's mother's connection to the home and the shadow of drug addiction looming over the victims, we're offered a somber glimpse into the vulnerabilities that were tragically exploited. As we conclude with Weldon's sentencing to life in prison, the raw emotion in the courtroom paints a vivid picture of the anguish and relief felt by the victims' families. And as the episode darkens with discussions on cannibalism and the grotesque, we're left to ponder the unsettling stories of human nature's darkest corners, reminding us that sometimes, the truest horror lies just beyond our own back door.

Jess:

I didn't know that well, hello kaylin, hi kaylin okay.

Hannah:

Well, hello Kaylin, Hi Kaylin, Okay.

Jess:

Hi, I'm Jess and I'm Hannah.

Hannah:

This is Wicked Wanderings okay, hello jessica, hello hannah, hi kaylin, thanks for joining in the fun tonight. Hi hi, she always forgets about me I do not forget about you, but you're the producer and all of a sudden you ended up on every episode. Wow.

Jess:

Hannah, tell us how you really feel I love you.

Hannah:

Today, we are going to unravel the story of a man whose crime sent shockwaves through Springfield, Massachusetts. Oh my God Right.

Jess:

She's a natural. She's a natural.

Hannah:

Today's case is the twisted saga of major douche canoe Stuart Rudolph, weldon, ew.

Jess:

Yes, what's up with the Leroy's and the Rudolph's?

Hannah:

I know right, really weird middle names Stuart Rudolph Weldon, who was born on June 24th 1977, in the Jamaica neighborhood of Queens, new York City. Jamaica was notorious for its high drug sales and crime rates. It was an unforgiving backdrop for young Stuart Weldon. Weldon also has a laundry list of diagnoses which kind of explains some things Bipolar dyslexia and ADHD, as well. As he only graduated from the first grade.

Rob:

What.

Hannah:

Yes.

Jess:

He only went to school through the first grade.

Hannah:

Yeah, okay, don't know how the parents got away with that, but yeah his family relocated to montclair, new jersey, where tragedy struck during his teenage years. When weldon's father passed away, friends said there was a transformation or like a shift in demeanor with him. After that, stewart's mother, who was also grieving herself, sought solace in spoiling her son after his father's passing. But unfortunately her son's path of crime was only beginning and literally, I feel like for the next two paragraphs all I'm going to be doing is just listing off every crime he did. So here we go.

Jess:

Kaylin's here for it.

Hannah:

In 1996, at age 19, wel and his accomplished dwight pottinger went to a nearby mall. There they encountered a young woman. After chatting for some time, she got in the car she would later recount the horror where she was sexually assaulted. What happened to weldon with this case is unclear, but again in 1997 he was given three years of probation for having a gun illegally.

Jess:

So he was like what, 20 years old at this time, 77? That made me do math. Well, I did the math In 1996, he was 19. So yeah, he was at 20.

Hannah:

All right.

Rob:

I was going to say. She just said he was 19.

Jess:

Did she? Yeah, I did. I was distracted by the soul lace.

Hannah:

Fair, fair yeah, I was distracted by the soul lace. Fair, fair. Years after getting off probation, weldon would yet again get in trouble. He was arrested and sentenced to one year and one day for burglary in 2006.

Rob:

I wonder why they sentenced him for one year and one day I know right isn't weird.

Jess:

I bet that extra day made a difference you think?

Hannah:

maybe who, I don't know it didn't clean up his act for one recidivism.

Jess:

Am I right?

Hannah:

it's a big word recidivism is when they repeat offenders pottinger was interviewed about weldon's killing spree in Springfield and was asked if he was surprised by Weldon's actions. And he was not. I just thought that was like sickly funny. It's like we bros we do the shit together. Yeah, he's like we smoked, we did drugs, we sexually assaulted women. No, I'm not surprised that he had three women in his backyard. That's totally what I want.

Jess:

I bet that was his, his thing on his yearbook.

Rob:

Most likely to have women buried in his backyard. What his yearbook when he graduated the first grade?

Hannah:

well, then moved from new jersey to mass, and his crime spree continued. In 2005, he got a charge of assault with a dangerous weapon, which he was sent to prison for and released in 2008. Then, in 2010, attempted to break into a liquor store. He was apprehended and sentenced to prison. Again. In 2015, he threatened to shoot up a downtown bar.

Rob:

I wonder what downtown bar it was.

Hannah:

So he was in Westfield, I believe, at the time, so it could have been one in the center, okay.

Jess:

I mean there's not really many. There's a couple.

Hannah:

He was on Main Street, I think is where his apartment was.

Rob:

Yeah, so there's a couple. I think there's actually two bars in downtown Westfield that the college students like to frequent. I can't remember what their names are.

Jess:

Westfield is where businesses go to die really so there's been a few bars.

Hannah:

Yeah, places don't last long in westfield oh, man but yeah, I, I actually do know where he lived in westfield on may 27, 2018, fate intervened at what should have been a regular traffic stop for a broken taillight. After a chase through the city, walden was finally stopped and police found a woman who says she was held against her will at his Page Boulevard home for a month, where she was raped and beaten with a hammer. What a dick, I know, right, douche canoe. The judge ordered $1 million bail, and his charges were as follows $1 million bail, and his charges were as follows Armed kidnapping with serious bodily injury, threat to commit a crime, resisting arrest, reckless operation of a motor vehicle carrying a dangerous weapon and failing to stop for police. Weldon's history with the Springfield police is extensive, with 16 arrests and charged with 68 offenses.

Jess:

Wow, so there's no reason he should be out. That's what.

Hannah:

I thought why is this guy on the freaking street? You agree, your guy got kidnapping, he got the all life was oh, that was, that was her.

Jess:

Yeah, he got life for kidnapping. Yeah, yeah, but the kidnapping was the last one, like his first ones were like burglary and well, I, I guess the one rape. Well, he did, he did serve time.

Hannah:

Well, so the sexual assault one was, until he killed himself.

Rob:

No, we're talking about Stuart. Stuart did serve some time. I confused you.

Hannah:

Kaylin. The sexual assault one, though, was weird, because like no one knew what happened after that, and if he was committing crimes a couple years later, it couldn't have been anything that stuck.

Jess:

They probably blamed the victim. Probably she probably cried wolf and they didn't believe her.

Hannah:

Just shitty as hell, she was a woman of ill repute. Yeah, and so she asked for it Because one resource said oh, they picked her up at a mall, but then it sounded like they picked her up from a party.

Jess:

So I'm sure she was probably inebriated.

Hannah:

Yeah, maybe it was a party at the mall. What party do you know at the mall?

Jess:

I don't know, a cool one, I don't know. This was the 90s. Everything was cooler in the 90s. Everything was cooler than that.

Hannah:

Yeah, even vicky's like yes, yes, it was now we have some audio from a press conference from May 31st 2018. Hampton County District Attorney Anthony Galluni gives us some info about the case.

Speaker 8:

Good afternoon. I am here joined today by Police Commissioner John Barbieri, max Bennett and Eduardo Velasquez from the District Attorney's Office in my office. I'm here to give you a brief update on the circumstances at 1333 Page Boulevard. Quite frankly, the investigation is very early and is ongoing and there's very little information I can release. But I wanted to respect the public's interest and the media's attendance here by giving you the details that I can share. Again, it's very early in the investigation. We expect this to extend in a very intense way over the next day or two at the very least, and more information will be released as time goes on. But I can confirm that two bodies were recovered at this address in the last 18 hours or so by the Springfield Police Department. That Springfield Police Department and members of my office are continuing this investigation. It is ongoing, as you can see.

Speaker 8:

I can't confirm only that Stuart Weldon, who was arrested on May 27th by the Springfield Police Department, does, we believe, live at this address.

Speaker 8:

That is the extent of the connections as far as we're willing to say At this point. I do want to commend Commissioner John Barberian, the Springfield Police Department, for making the arrest of Mr Weldon after a very dangerous pursuit and difficult process of making the arrest At this point. Additional facts are coming in moment to moment. The investigation is going on and I again remind you that this is very early in the process. But I did want to confirm the fact that we have recovered two bodies from this address. We do believe that Mr Weldon has been living up until the time of his arrest at this address on Page Boulevard and we are continuing the investigation along with the Springfield Police Department and members of my office. And again, details will be released as they become available and we're able to share them with the Springfield Police Department and members of my office. And again, details will be released as they become available and we're able to share them with the public.

Jess:

I just felt like he repeated the same thing over and over. Yeah, but isn't that what they usually do? I guess, I don't know. I haven't been to very many police briefings.

Rob:

So that was done right on Page Boulelevard at the duncan donuts. If anyone listening is from from the area, it's uh less than a quarter of a mile down from uh where where all this happened so you notice that it's 1333 page boulevard.

Hannah:

I don't know if I'm just a weirdo which I probably am but 333 is half of 666. And I'm just thinking like the devil's numbers. You're thinking the same thing.

Jess:

Vicki, see, you are a weirdo. I am a weirdo, but that's what makes you who you are, I know right.

Kaylyn:

That's why we love you. Oh, I love you too. All the love.

Hannah:

All the tenderness. So here is another audio clip we're going to play from CBS Morning Story from the next day, which was on June 1st 2018.

Speaker 7:

no-transcript and we begin, unfortunately, with a very disturbing story from Massachusetts. It's a kidnapping case that threatens to get so much worse after three bodies were found in a Massachusetts home. Please search the property in Springfield throughout the night. They say that this is the last known address of Stuart Weldon.

Speaker 9:

Police arrested him on Sunday after a bizarre traffic stop that started with a broken taillight. Well, it led to Weldon being charged with kidnapping, torturing and sexually assaulting his female passenger. Now she is still in the hospital with serious injuries. Anna Werner is near the crime scene in Springfield, massachusetts. Anna, good morning.

Speaker 10:

Good morning. So this is the house that investigators have been searching behind me, this green home. Next to that you can see a single car garage and next to that garage you can see a tent that investigators set up during their search. They're expected to continue searching this property today. The police report details how the woman in that car described to police as she sobbed uncontrollably his alleged acts of violence.

Speaker 8:

It's, as you can imagine, a very complicated investigation. All hands are on deck from the Springfield Police Department.

Speaker 10:

Less than eight hours after police announced, two bodies were found at Stuart Weldon's last known address, district Attorney Anthony Golani revealed last night that a third body had been discovered.

Speaker 8:

More information came in in the last 24 hours that led investigators to the home.

Speaker 10:

Neighbors say, police first arrived late Wednesday.

Speaker 10:

It started out with two cop cars and then next thing, you know, the whole street was filled with detectives. The search continued all day Thursday, focusing on the garage and yard next to the house. Investigators put up a tent. Weldon was arrested Sunday after a car chase ended in a crash and scuffle with officers. According to the police report, a woman in the car told officers that Weldon had been holding her captive for a month, adding that he sexually assaulted her and beat her with a hammer. She was taken to the hospital with injuries police described as grotesque and violent, including stab wounds to her abdomen and a possible fractured jaw. Before being transported to the hospital, the woman told police thank you guys for saving my life. I didn't think I was ever going to get away. Cbs station WBZ reports the house being searched belongs to Weldon's mother, but police are not saying who else lives there. Neighbors say they've seen other people in and around the home. They moved in a while back, but they're sort of secluded.

Hannah:

It's freaky. I feel like I'm watching TV and it's not real in my neighborhood.

Speaker 10:

It's very unnerving. We've not yet been able to reach Weldon or anyone from the family. He is in jail on $1 million bond. That bond in connection to charges lodged against him in connection with the traffic stop on Sunday and that alleged kidnapping. So far the district attorney has not charged Weldon or anyone else in connection with the three bodies found here at the home.

Hannah:

So between our two audio pieces you see that they found two bodies and then they finally found a third, and they did mention that weldon's mom owned the home and they have seen other people there. But one thing they did mention was that they did find a child there that ended up going into dcf services and I believe it's actually weldon's child, really, yeah I didn't know. He had a kid yeah, I mean, that's what it seemed like the research was saying, but they weren't sure if it was actually his child or not. Good, Interesting.

Jess:

I did hear from somebody who kind of knew one of the victims, and I can't say in what capacity they knew, but they had. It seems like all of these women were into drugs and, you know, kind of in a low spot in their life and I don't, I can't say for the one that was kidnapped, and this is just what I've heard. Um, I don't honestly know if it's fact or not, but in case anyone is listening, because this is still ongoing, right, he hasn't officially been charged. He has charged but not tried no, he's, he pleaded guilty.

Jess:

Oh did he good, I'll get into that, okay, well then, we can wait.

Hannah:

Uh. So, with it being weldon's mom's home, she actually reported to police that she had a foul smell in her home, and so, when the police were doing the search, that's how they found the three sets of human remains on the property, and they were a 47-year-old, I feel about Ernestine Ernestine Ryans of Springfield I hope I'm saying your name right who she went missing on March 18th 2018. And there was 34-year-old America Lydon of Springfield, who went missing December 1st 2017. 34-year-old America Lydon of Springfield, who went missing December 1st 2017, and then 27-year-old Kayla Escalante of Ludlow, who went missing in December. So here is audio from a press conference on June 4th 2018, where District Attorney Anthony Galluni identifies the victims that were found.

Speaker 8:

That is, the three victims who have been recovered. They are all identified. They are, in fact, all female and again those identities have been recovered. They, they are all identified. They are, in fact, all female and again, those identities have been provided to you. The Springfield Police Department, initially, and members of my office up until this morning, have been in touch with members of the victims families. They are, needless to say, distraught and heartbroken. It is my respectful request to you, members of the media, as well as the public, that you please respect their privacy and you respect the fact that they are mourning and dealing with a very, very tragic loss. So I ask for your forbearance with them in in the coming days and understand their position. I also want to update members of the public relative to new charges. This morning, mr welddon was arraigned in Springfield District Court on charges of kidnapping and assault to rape and, as a result, an additional $1 million cash bail was set. By agreement with the defense counsel and as directed by my office.

Hannah:

So the 52 charges are as follows he had three counts of murder, eight counts of strangulation, nine counts of aggravated rape, two counts of rape, five counts of aggravated kidnapping, four counts of kidnapping, two counts of assault to rape. That does not add up to 52.

Jess:

But right now, what about the murder? Yeah, three counts of murder yeah.

Hannah:

But that doesn't add up to 52.

Rob:

We need Derek where'd you get that number?

Jess:

or was that cj?

Hannah:

no, so there are 52 charges, but then they listed out some of them.

Jess:

Some of them what was it per person? Wait, hold on, oh, never mind, three counts I have no fucking clue.

Hannah:

That is not up to 50, but anyways. So now we have another audio clip from august 27 2018 from the courtroom, where the judge reads the counts and asks how stewart pleads please remain standing in the matter of commonwealth versus stewart weldon, indictment 2018-382.

Speaker 11:

We will formally read those indictments to indictment. In 2018-382, count one charging murder in the first degree, the grand jurors for the commonwealth of massachusetts, on their oath, presented steward weldon, defendant here in springfield in the county of hampton honor, about between april 1st 2018 and may 30th 2018, at Springfield in the county of New England, did assault MB KB, a person whose name is otherwise known to the grand jurors, with the intent to murder her, and, by stretch assault, he did kill and murder the said KB, a person whose name is otherwise known to the grand jury, in violation of Massachusetts General Law chapters 265, section 1. Sir, how do you wish?

Jess:

to plead to this indictment guilty or not guilty, Without more questions. Didn't you say not guilty?

Hannah:

yes so I get into that, I'm sorry, I'm just so excited. I want to know what goes on so weldon pleaded not guilty and so the trial was going to be set. But the pandemic happened and things ended up getting pushed off. About a month before the trial, weldon changed his plea to guilty to 39 charges and through tears he said I just want to close this case. He was sentenced to three consecutive life sentences. Keep your tears to yourself, you dick right. Finally, we have a story from Western Mass News from September 30th 2021.

Speaker 5:

Now to more breaking news. Tonight out of Springfield, stuart Weldon will serve three life sentences in prison.

Speaker 10:

Weldon pleaded guilty to murdering three women back in 2018. Their bodies were discovered in and around his property on Page Boulevard. Western Mass News reporter Matt Cetilli joins us. Live outside the Roderick Ireland Courthouse with more Matt.

Speaker 5:

Chris and Jordan. A lengthy and complex case here in Western Mass that made national headlines has finally come to a close. Stuart Weldon will serve three consecutive life sentences in prison.

Speaker 8:

Court orders that you be confined at MCI Cedar Junction for the term of your natural life.

Speaker 5:

Stuart Weldon, the man behind the real-life House of Horrors in Springfield, sentenced to prison Three consecutive life sentences, one for each of the women he now admits to killing. It was an emotional scene in the Roderick Ireland courthouse on Thursday afternoon, as families of the victims of Stuart Weldon who Western Mass News is not naming because they are victims of sexual assault gave their victim witness impact statements.

Speaker 6:

My life crumbled and stopped the minute the detectives came to my door. I'll never forget those moments. Every day I am haunted by memories and images. I will never be whole again.

Speaker 5:

Hamden District Attorney Anthony Galluni, commending all involved in closing this monumental case.

Speaker 8:

after Weldon surprisingly pleaded guilty on Tuesday, this kind of plea is extraordinary and rare and avoids the tremendous resources involved in trying this kind of case and any risk involved in a post-conviction process.

Speaker 5:

Surviving victims of Weldon and families of the deceased victims speaking out relieved that justice is served and Weldon is behind bars.

Speaker 12:

I know my sister. She was a fighter and I'm sure she put up one heck of a fight. I cringe at the last moments of her life, but I have determined, for the sake of the loving victims and families with us today, that this will be a day of celebration, not retribution, for I believe that good always trumps evil.

Speaker 5:

We also spoke to Weldon's attorney, brian Murphy, who tells Western Mass News in part quote while we believe that there was a defense that we could have raised based on Mr Stewart's admitted and irrefutable mental health issues, we thought this resolution was in his best interest and the best interest of all involved. Weldon had requested to serve his time in a Florida prison, but the judge did not agree. For now, weldon will begin his sentence here in the Bay State. For now, reporting live in Springfield, matt Zatilli, western Mass News.

Rob:

He wanted to serve his time down in Florida.

Kaylyn:

Why? For the nice weather, probably.

Hannah:

And there was something in the news articles that I read that there was it was asked for um out of state, so that's interesting that it was florida well, I'm just wondering why he was crying, because he got caught right he did better so something I don't understand is that, if you've ever been on page boule, those houses are so fucking close together. How do you not see a suspicious man in his backyard digging?

Rob:

He's planting a garden. At night you don't hear that Doing a garden, yeah.

Kaylyn:

In the middle of the night you're building a garden.

Jess:

I mean neighbors are not as nosy as they used to be.

Rob:

Right, especially in Springfield, especially on a busy street like that.

Jess:

His mother must have been so oblivious maybe she wanted to be oblivious. Well, that is the story of sewer weldon. Fuck that guy super major douche canoe yeah, I'm just glad that the families had closure absolutely of at least knowing you know having answers right. Yeah, to where their girls were. Yeah, I am glad he's going to be locked up for the rest of his life. Maybe this shouldn't have happened like years ago.

Kaylyn:

Absolutely, at least it happened.

Hannah:

And that's a whole other story, because I feel like I always get mad when people get a slap on the wrist for some of these crimes. But that's another episode.

Jess:

That's another rant by hannah someday. Yeah, it's so sad and it's weird because a lot of the cases I mean we do talk about in our own backyard, but they were like hundreds of years ago yeah, and so this is the first one that we've really talked about in massachusetts at least. That's like very local and recent and sad because danny crota was recent but not like recent yeah yeah, none of us were alive.

Kaylyn:

Yeah, for that well this episode like reminded me of a murder in america episode that I listened to and it's about daniel lee corwin and it was in texas and he would like bribe, like women that were on drugs and like all this other stuff, and then would kill them. Since he lived next to a sausage company, he got no we all made that face I almost don't want to hear what's gonna happen next don't eat sausage from texas. No but like no, he used it to cover up the smell of the dead bodies.

Hannah:

Oh, okay, I thought, okay, I went somewhere different, we all went to the same place.

Jess:

I mean snuck it in with the fake meat, all the innards.

Kaylyn:

Ew, that'd be gross. Yeah, that is nasty.

Rob:

We all thought that oh gross who was the guy that kept the head in the fridge.

Jess:

Jeffrey Dahmer.

Rob:

Yeah, that's what I was thinking.

Jess:

He ate all that shit.

Rob:

Nasty.

Hannah:

Delicious Tastes like chicken. I don't know, I don't know if it tastes like chicken.

Jess:

I don't want to know that you know of.

Hannah:

I heard this thing where it's like don't tell me, wow, kidding, go ahead where cannibals wouldn't eat, like the palm of like their victim's hand because like it tasted weird or something.

Jess:

So that's the part that tastes weird I'd imagine the skin would be a little more rough.
